Deciding to get a dog is a very big decision. Because just like having a baby, being a dog parent is a bit job. It takes a lot of work. And your dog can live for ten to twenty years. So this is definitely not a decision that you want to take lightly. Instead, you need to be sure of what you’re getting yourself into, and happy that this is the best possible thing for you. One of the things that can help you to be sure before you go ahead, is to know what it takes to look after your dog. Because you’re not just there to feed your dog – oh no. You’re there to raise a healthy dog and to make sure that they have a happy life. So let’s take a look at exactly what this involves.
Exercise
First of all, you need to make sure that they get exercise. To most people, this will be in the form of a walk or two each day. But it doesn’t have to be. You do just have to make sure that they are getting enough for their breed. So speak to your vet about this.
Nutrition
From here, there’s also their nutrition to think about. And you should really put a lot of time and attention into this. Make sure that you know what’s good for them. Think about the kinds of foods that they might need to eat for their breed. You can find information on the food a husky would love and the type a Maltese might like. So just be sure to do your research so that you can feed them a balanced and nutritional diet.
Training
And then, of course, we have their training. This can be something that now a lot of owners will do, nor think of. But it just just as much a part of raising a happy dog as anything else. Because if you have a naughty puppy, they will only ever grow to be disobedient and it could endanger them. But if they are trained, then they are going to be able to live more fulfilled and healthier lives.
Health & Grooming
Then there’s their checkups, shots and grooming to think about. Because dogs will need worming and sometimes different shots too. It’s also important to check their weight. Dogs will also need grooming or washing at least once a month. So make sure that you cover this off too.
Some dogs need specialized care for certain health problems, and it’s your responsibility as an owner to make sure they get the care they need. For example, if your dog develops back problems due to an injury, talk with your vet about ways to reduce their pain and deal with it.
Depending on the dog and the issue at hand, you may even be able to find doggy chiropractic care, which can give your furry friend a new lease of life. Cynthia Maro offers more expertise and advice in this field and other veterinary options for your pet.
Love
But then finally, to ensure that your dog grows up healthy all around, you need to make sure that you are showing them with love. Because dogs love affection and cuddles. And you will want to make sure that they feel apart of the family and loved. And to do this, they need to be a big part of your life. You need to take them with you everywhere, just like you would your child. You need to show them affection, play with them, and be kind. Because this will make them happy. And we all know a happy dog, is a healthy dog.
